Workshop fleets, loan devices and staff laptops under one console
A further education college runs devices that a school never sees: engineering workshop PCs, media Macs, loan iPads for learners, and staff laptops that leave the building every night. Purple MDM holds them all to the same checks, and treats a learner's own phone as a personal device.

What you are up against
A campus full of specialist devices
Specialist software, specialist settings
Media suites, CAD workstations and engineering PCs each need their own apps and settings, and one policy for the whole college breaks something somewhere.Loan devices
iPads and laptops lent to learners come back late, reset or not at all, and nobody knows what is on them.Learners' own devices
Adult learners bring their own phones and laptops and will not enrol them if it feels like surveillance.
How Purple MDM is set up
How Purple MDM is set up for a college
- A group per departmentMedia Macs, workshop PCs and office laptops each get their settings and apps as a group, with the effective result previewed per device.
- Loan devices that reset themselvesShared iPads reset between learners with Return to Service; lost mode with location and wipe for the ones that do not come back.
- Personal devices done fairlyA learner's phone enrols into a work area with a transparency page saying what the college can and cannot see.
- Encryption and admin rights for staffFileVault and BitLocker with keys stored, and time-limited admin rights for the lecturer who needs to install something once.

FAQ
Questions we hear from teams like yours
Can different departments have different apps and settings?
Yes. Groups are built from device facts and your directory, so media, engineering and office devices each get their own settings and apps, with the effective result shown per device.
What happens to a loan iPad that is returned?
Return to Service resets it between learners, keeping its apps and settings, so it is ready for the next loan without a visit to IT.
What can the college see on a learner's phone?
Only the work area. The transparency page lists what the college can and cannot see, and the learner can retire the device themselves.
Can staff get admin rights for one install?
Yes. A person asks, gets admin rights for a set time on approval, and loses them automatically.
