Scanners and drivers' devices that work a long way from IT

A logistics operation runs rugged Android scanners in the warehouse, phones and tablets in the cab, PCs in every depot and laptops at head office. Purple MDM enrolls the scanners by QR code or zero-touch, locks them to their apps, resets them between shifts and manages the depot PCs from the same console.

What you are up against

Devices on the move, technicians at base

  • A scanner down is a bay down

A warehouse scanner that lost its app or its WiFi stops a bay, and the nearest technician is a depot away.
  • Shift after shift

Devices pass between shifts and drivers, and each handover is a chance for something to be changed.
  • Depots everywhere

PCs in every depot, set up by whoever opened it, nobody sure which are patched.

How Purple MDM is set up

How Purple MDM is set up for a logistics operation

  • Scanners by QR code or zero-touchRugged Android devices enroll through Android Enterprise and arrive fully managed, with the warehouse apps installed and everything else blocked.
  • Reset between shiftsShared iPhones and iPads reset with Return to Service; Android devices carry a device policy rather than a driver's.
  • Depot PCs in the same consoleBitLocker, Windows LAPS and update rings timed for quiet hours, across every depot as one group each.
  • Fixes without a visitKnown fixes sent automatically, scripts run from the console, and rejoin WiFi in the self-service catalog for the shift lead.

FAQ

Questions we hear from teams like yours

How do we enroll a pallet of new scanners?

Android zero-touch or a QR code at first switch-on. The scanner arrives fully managed, with the warehouse apps installed and everything else blocked.

What happens when a driver loses a device?

Lost mode with the location the device reports, lock, and wipe from the console. A personal phone loses only its work area.

Can a depot run its own PCs?

A depot lead with the Helpdesk role can lock and fix devices but not wipe them or see recovery keys; head office keeps the Admin role.

Will scanners update mid-shift?

No. Update deadlines and deferrals are set per group, so warehouse devices update between shifts.
